The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is gearing up to extend its presence in the state of West Bengal, specifically in North Bengal, alongside its existing offices in the capital city of Kolkata. This development follows a recent directive from the Calcutta High Court, issued in response to an appeal by the CBI.
The agency emphasized the need for its officers to frequently travel between Kolkata and North Bengal for investigations across a range of cases. Recognizing the practical challenges this presented, the court has instructed the state government to provide the necessary logistical support to establish a permanent CBI camp office in North Bengal. Additionally, the court has already approved the deputation of 10 personnel from the state police to the CBI, including two inspectors and eight constables. This expansion is expected to significantly boost the efficiency and effectiveness of CBI operations in North Bengal.
In this endeavor, the state government has pledged its full support by ensuring transportation arrangements for CBI officials in North Bengal. The expansion is particularly significant as it aims to facilitate CBI investigations in a region where the agency's presence is relatively limited. With these developments, the CBI is poised to strengthen its investigative capabilities, especially in North Bengal, to address a wide range of cases more efficiently and effectively.
